The institution of marriage is founded on the same human tendencies as dating. Except the former legislates a much larger inertia against separation.
Yet in our longing for a type of perfection in another person, we neglect to look inward. For how can 2 hollow logs burn beyond the brevity of an forgotten flame?

Yes. I would like to think that I've never believed in finding personal happiness through someone else. You are what you make yourself out to be.
But unfortunately, marriage does have this effect of blurring two wholes into one. After all, how can you live your life with someone else's quirks and indiosyncrasies, if individuality reigns supreme? By signing on that dotted line, you've effectively accepted another person, lock, stock and barrel, into your life. Two becomes one, as the very cliched saying goes. I do believe that's the intended effect. Whether it's right or wrong, wise or not, I don't know. But yeah..you do look inwards, just that it's not at you alone anymore.
